1. Can you tell us a little about your school/cohort?
At East Wittering Community Primary School, we have a mixed Year 5/6 cohort across three classes. Tracking progression and tailoring interventions for SATs readiness has been a challenge, particularly with the workload on teachers to ensure individualised learning.
2. What were you using before SATs Companion?
Before SATs Companion, we relied on printed resources sourced online and materials from Twinkl.
3. What were your first impressions?
Our first impressions were positive. SATs Companion proved easy to use and offered comprehensive coverage once we understood how to utilise it effectively.
4. How are you currently using SATs Companion for intervention?
Currently, we utilise SATs Companion for whole-class instruction, homework assignments, and targeted interventions. Interventions are conducted by LSAs after lunch, utilising SATs Companion to target specific areas of improvement. Data from SATs Companion is utilised to set baseline and SATs tests, informing the creation of intervention groups based on identified learning gaps.
5. What effect has SATs Companion had on your pupils?
SATs Companion has motivated pupils through rewards for task completion and empowered them to guide their own learning. It has also helped them identify areas needing improvement. SATs Companion has contributed to increased attainment levels by improving pupil scores and revealing gaps in learning.
6. What effect has SATs Companion had on your staff?
Staff workload has been reduced, and understanding of individual pupils' needs has improved. The platform has been positively received for its time-saving features. One of the main benefits includes monitoring pupil progress during interventions and eliminating the need for additional intervention resources. SATs Companion has reduced teacher workload by streamlining marking processes and providing ready-to-use resources. SATs Companion's effectiveness lies in its personalised approach to pupil learning and its user-friendly interface. Losing access to SATs Companion would result in increased workload and difficulty in tracking individual pupil targets across the curriculum.
7. Do pupils like using SATs Companion?
Pupils find it helpful and informative, often utilising it at home and during free time in class. The wider school community also views SATs Companion positively, appreciating its seamless alignment with classroom learning and its role in tracking student progress. Individual pupils, especially those struggling with method retention, have benefited from revisiting the video lessons.
8. How has the support been from the SATs Companion team?
Support from the SATs Companion team has been excellent, with live chat features available for both teachers and LSAs.
9. Is there anything you would say to others considering SATs Companion?
Do it, it’s very helpful and informative! SATs Companion is an invaluable tool for tracking student progression and enhancing classroom learning. Its ease of use and informative resources make it highly recommended.
Testimonials:
Parysah Yazdanpanah, Deputy Head:
Teachers and LSAs found the training of SATs companion robust and felt supported by the live chat if questions arose. The website is easy to navigate and covers the whole curriculum. The videos are helpful and can also be used for the whole class as part of a learning input.
Parents have enjoyed being able to see their children’s learning goals throughout the year. It has enabled clear communication of how parents can support their child’s learning at home and parents found the videos helpful to develop their understanding of methods used in school. This means they were able to support their child at home with greater ease.
Nikki Ryan, Year 6 Teacher
I found the platform an easy way to make sure our interventions were targeted and having a positive impact on children’s progression. Being able to set up small groups on the system has saved us time in resourcing and marking. It helped me communicate with parents and staff about how the children were getting on.
